Chiz had two works from her "Camp Days 1942-1945" series in this exhibition:
(11) ARMED GUARDS WATCHED OVER THE SCRAP LUMBER PILES DURING THE DAY. AT NIGHT MY BROTHERS, AS WELL AS MANY OTHERS, HAD TO STEAL THE LUMBER TO MAKE OUR FURNITURE, AS WE HAD NOTHING TO SIT ON OR PUT OUR CLOTHES AWAY IN.
(12) OUT OF THE SCRAP LUMBER , MY DAD AND BROTHERS MADE ALL OUR FURNITURE AND WOODEN "GETAS" FOR OUR FEET. THEY NAILED TIN CAN LIDS, THAT THEY GOT FROM THE MESS HALL, OVER HOLES IN THE BARRACK FLOORS AND WALLS TO KEEP OUT SCORPIONS, MICE, AND BUGS. WE ROLLED NEWSPAPERS TO FILL THE CRACKS BETWEEN THE WALL BOARDS TO TRY TO KEEP THE SAND OUT.

- Two University Presentations - "Japanese Myths and Superstitions (Growing up Japanese American)" and "Growing up Japanese American in the Internment Camps of WWII"
California State University San Bernardino February 5, 2008
These lectures were sponsored by the Asian Studies Minor program and the Department of Anthropology, and were hosted by Associate Professor Kathleen Nadeau, Ph.D.
Following is biographical material posted by the university, in advance of the presentations:
About the Guest Speaker: Ms. Sugita de Queiroz is a well known and highly esteemed Japanese American artist in Southern California, where her work has been widely displayed. A few years ago, her exhibit of water color paintings that illustrated the three years during World War II, when she and her family were confined to an internment camp, were on display at Pfau Library.
Ms. Chizuko Judy Sugita de Queiroz has been drawing and painting since childhood. As a class artist in elementary school, yearbook artist in high school and college, she has numerous awards for her artistic works. She has a BFA and MFA from Long Beach State University and Dominquez Hills University, respectively. She began her career as a high school art teacher and has taught art and art history at local colleges. She has written a children's book. Her art has been exhibited in a number of galleries and cultural centers, and art institutes and museums, around California and Arizona. Among her more recent collective works is her series of Japanese Nature paintings. Also, currently, she is working on an article for publication dealing with mythologies, legends, and superstitions among the Japanese American community in which she grew up in. Her guest lectures this week promise to be most enticing and meaningful; everyone is welcome to attend and seating is ample (though, depending on interest generated, may be limited in current classroom locations, so please kindly let me know right away if you are interested in case I need to change venue to a larger room and will post any changes; otherwise, the event will be held in my class rooms: Ch 114 has at least 27 seats open and SB 210 has about 12 seats open; again room can be changed if needed so please let me know if you are interested in attending this rare and precious event). Thank you.

The old Bank of Japan building, which now contains an art gallery, is located 460 yds from the A-Bomb blast. Its exterior sustained
surprisingly little damage. The use of this building is controlled by the Peace Dept. of Hiroshima City. They had info about my show on the city's website. The site's text was in Japanese, but here is a translation
from a friend in Japan:
"Chizuko Judy Sugita de Queiroz, whose parents are originally from Hiroshima, was detained in a concentration camp in Poston, Arizona during WWII.
She painted 61 watercolors which express the cruel experience of camp life. She will visit Hiroshima all the way from the U.S., and will make a personal
appearance at this exhibition. She will speak of her own experiences and will talk about justice, civil rights, racism, and most of all, the wish for world peace.
She wishes to appeal to the world, together with the people of Hiroshima, the importance of 'No More Wars' and 'Peace on Earth'.
She will meet meet and discuss 'Peace' with the people of Hiroshima".
